英语中on the other hand和on the contrary这两个话语关联语的篇章连接功能有差异,是不能换用的。前者涉及肯定性陈述,后者涉及否定性争辩。但语料库调查发现中国学生往往在应该使用on the other hand时错误地使用on the contrary。英汉对比分析显示这种误用主要来自学生母语的负面影响。

The two English discourse connectives, “on the other hand” and “on the contrary”, are not interchangeable. The former relates to affirmation, while the latter is connected with denial. A corpus investigation shows that Chinese EFL learners tend to use “on the contrary” mistakenly where “on the other hand” should be used. An error analysis suggests that the mistake is caused mainly by the negative transfer of their first language.
