In antiquity, either in east or west, sculpture and painting were closed linked, especially after religion came into being, it was even more like that. No doubt, the combination of the two more served politics and religion as required, however, the world-famous Dunhuang Grottoes was not exceptional. Dunhuang Grottoes, such Buddhism grottoes, the relations of whose frescoes and sculpture with architecture frescoes have been a unified entity since it started to be chiseled, has experienced decades of dynasties for over 1,000 years. It can even be said that the formation of grottoes was chiseled under the guidance of artists. Many visual magic effects created by space and shadow still make us lost in wonder.
