In July 2003, Huludao City was named as “the Zither Island of China” by some departments from LiaoningProvince and the State. Now the special culture promotes the progress of the society of the city and boosts up theattraction and motive force of the new rising city. In Huludao, there are more than 20 zither-teachingbases with students over 6000. Zither, as a traditionalChinese musical instrument, plays an active role inpeople’s daily life. Some zither groups have got famousat home and abroad. And some made a figure at theinternational stage. For example, the Orient WomenZither Music Troupe once visited and performed atGermany, France, Italy, Ireland, Cuba, Austria, Holland,Finland, North Korea, South Korea, Japan, and HongKong. It was highly appraised by the Chinese embassyin Ireland and Cuba as well as by the Chinese BusinessDelegate Office in Dominica and the State CulturalDepartment of China. What is more, the troupe hasestablished a teaching organization and the zither-playersassociation in some countries such as Ireland, Hungary,Japan and Canada.
