Sun Xiaodong is a youth painter in Liaoning Painting House. He follows suit of Chinese traditional painting and has contemporary Western composing and expression in his works. He is good at free brushwork with his wit in his works of mountains, villages, characters, and livestock. His brushwork of flesh is mixed with traditional Chinese painting and modern aesthetic consciousness. His brushwork is full of tinge of bookman and is mixed with color of the present age. Sun Xiaodong likes to read and visit mountains and rivers of China, which broadens his mind. Some of his works like "Mr. Lu Xun", "Statue of Xu Qingteng", "Old Man Baishi and Cushaw", and "In the North", won a high prestige and got award at the national artists exhibition. Mr. Yang Renkai once made a comment to his opus that Sun Xiaodong is fanatic of "writing" in his opus because he studies calligraphy, which he uses in his brushworks.
