明初王朝对地方医疗颇为重视,规定府州县均设医学,成为地方官衙一部分。医学的职能主要是培训地方医疗人才、负责地方卫生事宜。明代广东县级政区几乎均设医学,对医学文献整理、人才培养均有积极成效,一定程度上改变了当地信巫轻医的习俗。
