Antiquities Reappear

民宅大院本是古域阆中一大景观,但当我循着几条尚存青石板的老街找到孔家大院,马家大院时,所见大失所望。那工艺简单、粉饰一新的漆黑门窗,平整雪白的墙壁。难觅半点历史的沧桑。穿着现代制服的女接待员和那挥之不去的油漆味,使我怀古的情感荡然无存。再看那沿街整齐划一的宫灯,也使“古韵”显得有些牵强。然而在双栅子街口,一扇半开着、隐约可见一对门神的旧门吸引了我的目光。走到门前,发现是一个幽静的三进小院,瓦屋绮窗,天井里一树火红的海棠花,院内全是极具艺术价值的花门窗,铺陈着老建筑的古色古香,平民而精致。我心中一下充满了惊喜。

In the ancient city of Langzhong, Sichuan Province, there is a small compound of Zhang family, where many delicate ancient hollow-out woodcarving windows are placed. Out of the affection for his hometown, Zhang Jianyong, the owner of the house went to rural areas far and near to collect cultural artifacts such as woodcarving doors and windows, antiquated furniture at his own expenses over the past years. The cultural artifacts he collected are open gratis to visitors from home and abroad. Zhang, who leads a meager life, feels gratified spiritually in spite of numerous difficulties.
