Plank road was usually built along the face of a cliff by cutting the rock and laying wood planks and stone slabs supported by stilts in ancient times. The Hanjiang River valley was once the initial civilization center of the Chinese nation. Along with the influence of the constant propagation of the civilization from the Central Plains areas, the ancients in various historical stages cut precipices and built perilous pathes one after another through the lofty Qinling Mountain ridges along the Hanjiang River valley. The better known of these roads include: Ziwu Road, Lizhi Road, Micang Road, all of which once witnessed the former glory of busy traffic. But now, most of them vanished in the dense historical fog.
