Zhaosu County is Located in southwestern Ili Kazak Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It is home to 21 minority nationalities. The county, which has grasslands accounting for 2/3 of its total area and alpine glacier, for 1/3, is the only one that has no desert in Xinjiang. It boasts very beautiful natural scenery. The county is also the birthplace of Hi horse, which is widely known as 'heavenly steed'. Zhaosu, the native place of the ancient Usun Kingdom in the Western Region in history, was included in the territory of China in the Western Han Dynasty. It was the hub on the ancient Silk Road. There are numerous sites of historical interests and cultural relics. The best-known of them are the stone statues on the grassland, the tablets on Mt. Gedeng and Shengyou Temple dedicated to the Yellow Sect of Tibetan Buddhism.
