Is It Worthwhile to Get Electricity at the Cost of Ecosystem?

由于电力紧张,位于中国西部的大渡河、金沙江、岷江、怒江、澜沧江、嘉陵江、乌江以及珠江上游先后被几家电力公司“圈”入囊中,建设梯级水电站。此举在解决中国未来电力缺口的同时,也造成了极为严重的生态危机,现状令人堪忧。

Seeing the situation that China is now in short supply of electricity, several power companies are planning to carry out cascade development for hydropower on the rivers in western China such as Dadu, Jinsha, Nujiang, Minjiang, Zagunao, Lancang, Jialing, Wujiang and Pearl. This move may be able to contribute to the adequate supply of electricity in the future, but at the same time give rise to extremely grave ecocrisis. This has aroused deep anxiety among the broad masses of people.
