建国后 ,监狱职能出现错位 ,不仅冲击惩罚和改造 ,而且滋生腐败。其原因主要是 :经济发展水平低 ,职能定位不明确 ,理论上的片面性和利益驱动所致。对监狱职能本质属性的认识是一个不断深化的过程 ,学术界曾就此展开了讨论和争鸣。它对我们的启示是 ,应解决好监狱学研究中的有关方法论问题。

After the founding of the PRC,the functions of prisons suffered a distortion that not only compromised the effect of punishment and rehabilitation,but also made way for corruption. This distortion is mainly attributable to a low level of economic development,a lack of clarification in the functions of prisons,the one -sideness in the guiding theory and the driving force of economic interests. The understanding of the functions of prisons is a continually deepening process,on which the academic article had been discussed and debated. Such discussions and debates reveal to us the necessity to answer the question of methodology in the study of prison.
