英、汉委婉语

English and Chinese Euphemisms

语言是文化的载体 ,文化是语言的内涵。任何民族的委婉语的产生 ,都有其特定的历史文化背景。文章试从委婉语的内容和表现形式两个方面对汉、英委婉语进行一些初步比较 ,探究中、西 (本文以英美国家为主 )文化差异 ,以求克服在跨文化交际中因委婉语而引起的障碍。

A language is the carrier and reflector of culture. Euphemisms in each language have their distinctive cultural backgrounds. This paper makes an initial comparison of euphemisms between English and Chinese both in content and form. The study attempts to explore the cultural differences between the West(this paper mainly based on the U.S.and Britain) and China,in the hope that such an effort will contribute to the overcoming of the blocks of intercultural communication derived from euphemisms.
