The paper discusses the effective way to approach to the 'Functional Equivalence' in English-Chinese or vice versa translation. The writer believes that in the cross-culture communication in the present world, the successful translation is the one understood and appreciated by the target language reader while well preserving the source language culture. Finally, the paper concludes that a qualified translator is to possess both bilingual-ism and biculturalism caliber to bridge both language and culture gap in translation.
