New productions of Massenet's Thas and Puccini's La Rondine at the Met

好莱坞有大牌,可以让不是太有票房保证的片子开拍。在歌剧界也有大牌,可以让歌剧院专门为之上演冷门剧目,可以让观众趋之若鹜,走进剧院看完全不熟悉的戏。两者不同的是,好莱坞的大牌,虽然男女都有,但主要还是男演员居多。而歌剧界的大牌,则几乎都是女歌手,而且还是女高音,这就是所谓的Diva(歌剧中的女主角)。这个字虽然也有阳性Divo,可以用来指称男高音,但叫起来就不如Diva响亮,也不容易激起歌迷那种忠诚恭谨顶礼膜拜的激情。

Two new but rarely performed productions of Massenet s Thais and Puccini s La Rondine landed on the Met s stage.Renee Fleming and Angela Gheorghiu are the divas in the productions. The art deco sets were taken from Thais in Chicago and La Rondine in Toulouse, London and San Francisco.Fleming kept her good breath control and mellow tone in Thas.Compared to Fleming, Gheorghiu is a traditional diva.Her vocal projection was not loud enough to reach the 3,800 seats at the Met.Fortunately, her acting compensated...
