《简·爱》书中的女主人公简的形象成为女性自强、勇敢和理性的象征,而另一个奇特的女人———伯莎·梅森却往往被忽略。透过作者夏洛蒂·勃朗特的性格和生平,我们可以看出,疯女人伯莎·梅森这一形象反映出夏洛蒂·勃朗特在维多利亚时代的英国所感受到的社会对妇女的压力,以及她的双重性格在《简·爱》中的曲折反映。
This essay analyses the text of Jane Eyre and the character of Charlotte Bronte to disclose the meaning of the mad woman(Bursa Mason's)image.The image expresses the pressure that woman receibed from the society of the Victoria's Era.This essay also discloses Charlontte's double character that reader can find in the novel.
