试论汉语成语在汉英词典中的处理

Translation of Chinese Idioms in Chinese-English Dictionary

汉语成语是中华民族优秀文化的精华凝结之瑰宝。汉语成语在汉英词典中翻译是否准确、处理是否得当是衡量和评判一部汉英词典质量优劣的重要标准之一。本人根据外语教学与研究出版社危东亚主编的《汉英词典》(修订版)与上海交通大学出版社吴光华主编的《汉英大词典》(新世纪版)等几本现今使用较为广泛、颇具权威性的词典,对汉语成语词典编纂提出几点改进的建议。

Chinese idioms are splendid treasures of Chinese traditional culture.Whether they are correctly translated and properly handled is one of the most important criteria of judging its Chinese-English dictionary 's quality.The author endeavors to analyze and sum up the methods applied in the process of translating Chi-nese idioms into English in Chinese-English dictionaries and offer some suggestions on the improvement of Chinese-English dictionary compilation in a new era according to study on a few relatively popular and au-thoritative modern Chinese-English dictionaries.
