石渠不仅大,而且地广人稀,"稀"到什么程度呢?全县人口只有6万余,也就是说平均每平方公里不到3个人,除在县区乡镇等地人口相对密集外,一些偏远的地方则接近于无人区了.所谓"无人区"并非绝对无人居住,而是指人口密度极低,比如藏北无人区就是平均几十平方公里才有一人.这些地方由于高寒缺氧等恶劣的自然条件,被人视为"生命禁区",相反正因为"无人",却使它成了野生动物的天堂.
Shiqu County has a vast territory with a sparse population, averaging less than 3 people per sq km. As it is rarely traversed by humans due to its frigid climate and oxygen deficiency the place deserves to be a paradise for wildlife. According to the survey, there are 9 varieties of animals under the State first-class protection, i.e. black-necked crane, cervus albirostris, snow leopard, golden eagle, jade-belt sea eagle, Tibetan wild ass, wild yak, ibex, vulture; 34 varieties of animals under the State second-class protection, including Tibetan gazelle, musk deer, bharal in the territory of Shiqu County. These animals are mainly scattered in the areas with an elevation of about 4,200-4,800 m above sea level along the Yalong and Jinsha river valleys.
