The realization of leapfrogging socio-economic development in the Tibet Autonomous Region remains a key issue in the current drive to develop Western China. In this connection, the CAS Academic Divisions have sponsored a task force of a dozen CAS members and nearly 30 other experts to conduct comprehensive studies on the subject, and presented a feasibility study report to the central government.
