Liberty is the Soul of Art

艺术的灵魂是既非现实主义 ,又非浪漫主义的 ;即非再现 ,又非表现 ;既非道德的劝善惩恶 ,又非历史的展示和预言 ,而在于审美的自由。这种自由 ,既体现在艺术精神内容特征上 ,又体现在艺术形式的发展变化上 ,同时 ,更鲜明地体现在艺术主体的人格内涵中。自由 ,是艺术永恒的灵魂。

This paper holds that the soul of art is neither realism nor romanticism, neither representation nor presentation, neither moral sense fosterage nor history exhibition and prediction, but lies in the liberty of beauty appreciation. The liberty can be observed in the content of art spirit, in the development of art form, and more obviously in the personality of art subject. In short, liberty is the soul of art.
