语文教育主要是语言教育──与童庆炳先生商榷

Language Teaching is Mainly Linguistic Teaching ─to Mr.Tong Qingbing

“语文”的“文”，指的是书面语言，语文课是语言课。语言学家介入语文教育，是他们应尽的义务。学语言必须读文学，但读文学不等于学文学而是学语言。把语文课当作文学课来处理，不仅不符合大众对于语文能力的需要，而且也有悖个体语言发展的规律。

Here 'language' mainly means written language. But a language lesson should be a language and speech lesson. Teachers should introduce linguistics to language teaching. It's their duty. To learn a language, one must read literary works. But, it does not mean to learn the speech. Taking language teaching as literature teaching is not in accordance with the need of improving language ability. Neither does it conform to the rule of development of language individually.
