Descriptive translation studies (DTS) represents a new approach to translation studies developed in the 1970s in the western world, which not only broadens the horizon of translation studies, but swerves its focus to target-orientedness and target culture. The new paradigm of study, however, still presents various theoretical incompletenesses. This paper, based on a generalization of DTS and its deficiencies, makes a tentative inquiry into the objects and ways of description, with a view of providing a reference framework for the panoramic description of translation acts or phenomena and approaching a more accurate and effective description of them.
