A Brief Discourse on the Influence of Social Development on Translation by Comparing the Different Chinese Translation of the Title of the Novel Lonesome Dove — From Lonesome Dove(《西部牛仔情》)to Lonesome Dove(《孤独鸽》)

翻译是一种跨语言和跨文化的行为 ,不同的文化背景、不同的社会意识形态都会对翻译产生影响。美国作家拉里·麦克默特里 (LarryMcMurtry)所著“LonesomeDove”一书 ,在 80年代后期曾被译为《西部牛仔情》 ,90年代后期 ,又被译为《孤独鸽》。该书在不同时期的不同译名 。

Translation is cross linguistic and cross-cultural. Different social and cultural backgrounds and different ideology might bring about remarkable influence on translation. Lonesome Dove authored by American novelist Larry McMurtry was translated into Chinese in the 1980s with the title of 《西部牛仔情》,and in the late 1990s, the novel was re rendered into Chinese but with the title of 《孤独鸽》. The different translation of the title mirrors the influence of social development on translation.
