As a significant scholarly group in American society, American historians have devoted much enthusiasm to Chinese studies. Adequate attention to their researches is conducive to our understanding of American intellectuals' views of China. Drawing evidences from the articles about Chinese studies carried in American Historical Review in the 1990s, the current author reveals the consistent plot in the journal's Chinese studies: Confucian tradition has dominated the social development and foreign relations of modern China.
