The author and the folk toys that she loved, experienced problems during periods of social turbulence. The reform and opening-up policy of the 1980s gave new life to the folk toys of old Beijing, allowing them to reemerge. With the support of folk toy collectors, the artistry of the old toys has finally been recognized.
