Despite today's increasing commercial activities seemingly creating distance between people, the custom of maternal uncles helping to raise nieces and nephews is retained by Mosuo people, long-time inhabitants of the area beside remote Lugu Lake. The moving story that follows concerns Li Gaoruo who is selflessly helping his two nephews complete their education.
