On September 1, hundreds of thousands of students will start their first year of study in one of China's more than 2,000 universities and colleges. Although higher education remains out of reach for the vast majority of Chinese people, it is developing at a fast rate and, in 2002, the gross enrollment rate in institutions of higher learning reached 15 percent, more than four times the figures of 19901.
9月1日起,中国的2000多所高等院校将迎来又一个新的学年。成千上万的大学新生将步入校园,开始他们的第一年大学生活。尽管并不是所有的中国年轻人都能进入到大学里深造,但中国的高等教育发展势头强劲。2002年全国的高等院校入学率是15%,比1990年的数字翻了两番还多。
