Hancheng, situated in northeast Shaanxi Province, is a 3,000-year-old city. It is the birthplace of Sima Qian (145 BC-c. 90 BC), the great historian of Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-25 AD), author of A Record of History.* The city boasts many elegant ancient buildings, including the Sima Qian Temple, where the many descendents of Sima Qian who still observe the old tradition of mourning their ancestors come every April to pay their respect.
