中西建筑艺术相融合的石库门作为建筑和文化的产物,在中国近代建筑史上留下了深深的烙印。它的出现是一种城市生活的必然。石库门建筑盛行于20世纪20年代, 占据了当时上海民居的四分之三以上,它曾孕育了上海的中产阶层精神,可以说石库门已经成为上海文化的重要组成部分。石库门是大上海过去的影子,要想真正了解上海就要懂得石库门,要想真实地感怀上海的沧桑,就要先重温上海的石库门。
