The Huayao (girdle with flowery decorations) Dai is one of the branches of the Dai minority group. More than 95 percent of the Huayao Dai people live in the area of the Red River Valley and the Gasa River, which is in Xinping Autonomous County for Yi and Dai Minorities, Yuxi City, Yunnan Province. 花腰傣,是傣族的一个支系,主要分布在云南省玉溪市新平彝族傣族自治县的红河谷流域和戛洒江流域,人口有4万多人,占全省花腰傣的95％以上,有傣雅、傣洒、傣卡3个分支。他们是古哀牢傣王国贵族的后裔,一直保持着古哀牢傣王国的传统文化习俗,服装也还是那样高贵华丽。因为妇女们的腰部环绕着彩带形的“花腰”,所以,被其它民族亲切地称为“花腰傣”。
