Zhoucheng,the small village in the Bai Autonomous Prefecture in Dali,Yunnan Province,is more than the home of the Bai minority group:The village is referred to as the home of the time-honored craft of tie dyeing. Since the end of the Ming Dynasty(1368-1644)and the beginning of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911),the Bai women in the village have been using Banlan’gen(a type of Chinese herb used by Chinese both as a kind of dye and herbal medicine to treat colds)as the dye.Clothing dyed with this unique dye stuff tends to have dark blue and green colors.
周城,云南省大理白族自治州所辖的一个小村庄,是海内外闻名遐迩的扎染艺术之乡。生活在这个村子里的白族妇女聪明过人。从明末清初开始,她们便用来自大自然的植物——板蓝根为染料创造出青里带翠、凝重素雅,集文化、艺术为一体,充满浓郁民族风味的传统扎染工艺制品。
