The theogonies of the Chinese and of the Greek mythology differ from each other in how they represent gods' origins, appearances, functions, placements, and characters respectively. These differences derive from the way the two ancient peoples concerned differed from each other in their respective modes of production, ways of living, patterns of political organization, and environmental conditions. They also encode the differences between a landlocked agrarian culture and a maritime one.
