Study on Lin Yu-tang’s English version of Six Chapters of a Floating Life: An ideological perspective

本文借助勒菲弗尔的翻译改写理论,把林语堂英译《浮生六记》置于广阔的社会文化环境下,深入分析意识形态对林语堂翻译活动的影响。他对原语文本的选择及其翻译策略的使用都受到了来自目的语文化意识形态的制约和操控。

This paper proposes to study translation activities from social-cultural angle with the help of rewriting put forward by Andre Lefevere.It elaborates on the influence of ideology on Lin Yu-tang in translating Six Chapters of a Floating Life.His selection of both the source text and specific translation strategies are manipulated by ideology in the target culture.
