Mao Ze-dong’s cultural thought in the New Democracy period is an important part of Mao’s cultural thought,whereby the features and the orientation of the culture in the New Democracy Period is formulated.This paper reviews the origin and the development of Mao’s cultural thought during this specific period,and articulates its connotations and its implications for modern times.It is argued that given the present trend of political multi-polarization and economic globalization,only when improving the cultural competence is planed as our developmental strategy can we construe,with more innovational spirit and from a more open approach,the culture with Chinese characteristics in the new age.
