弁于文献记载有悠久的历史,但长久以来学者对皮弁的认识多有分歧。本文对历代美术材料中所见皮弁的形制以及变化趋势进行分析,推定汉画像石中皮弁的基本形状,在此基础上进一步探讨其服饰功用和文化意义。
