Ethnic thoughts of Confucians in the Yuan Dynasty were full of disputes and lacked consistency. There were the Han Confucians and the ethnic minority Confucians,and the Han Confucians were divided into the northern and the southern schools. They all had to make hard choices concerning their origin,loyalty,and Tao. Their choices were marked by fissures brought by ethnic confrontations.
