During each great change undergone by China in modern times, almost all important historical events were closely related to the city of Tianjin, which was the center of many political struggles. The history of Tianjin in modern times corresponds to the development road of the entire country during the past one hundred years; this is a glorious period when Chinese and western cultures met, blended and improved.
