Spacer studs are essential parts of spiral plate heat exchangers.In this paper,after a brief description of the function of spacer studs,several factors to be considered during machining and welding of spacer studs were discussed.During machining,one end of the spacer stud need be beveled;height variation between studs need also be properly controlled.Another important factor was the choice of welding procedure and studs arrangement.At last,the importance of keeping a certain amount of studs with different lengths at the outmost circle of the spiral structure was presented.
