从关联理论视角看模糊语言的效果——以历届美国总统就职演说辞为例

A study on the effect of vague language from the perspective of relevance theory: a case study of successive U.S. presidential inaugural addresses

以历届美国总统就职演说辞为研究语料,从关联理论角度研究了模糊语言的效果。结果表明模糊语言其实并不"模糊",它只是以一种模糊的表达方式来达到"明示"的效果,两者并不对立。模糊语言在总统就职演说辞中具有不可替代的重要作用,关联理论对此具有一定的解释力。

This paper takes successive U.S.presidential inaugural addresses as the corpus,and analyzes the effect of vague language from the perspective of relevance theory.It turns out that vague language is not 'vague',but to achieve the 'ostensive' effect in a vague way,in which 'vague' and 'ostensive' are not opposites.Vague language plays an irreplaceably important role in the presidential inaugural addresses;and relevance theory bears a certain explanation to some extent.
