KWL is a teaching strategy that first provides a reading framework for the student, and guides the student to acquire the background knowledge related to the reading topic. Then, it motivates the student to do further reading and to list what he has learned and has yet to learn. This paper introduces the relevant researches in regard to KWL strategy, and discusses the steps in applying it to the English reading teaching and its implication, with a view to improving the student’s reading ability.
