Molecular weight is one of the most important characteristic parameters of petroleum resins.It is also one of the important indexes used to control the quality,which leads the methods to determine relative molecular weight to develop rapidly in recent years.In this paper,the mechanism and application were overviewed for the most widely used technologies including viscosimetry and gel permeation chromatography.Gel permeation chromatography method is easy to operate,with high sensitivity,which is suitable for the molecular weight and its distribution determination of petroleum resins simultaneously.
