The publication of the inscription on Duke Jue's Gui(a type of food container) offers an opportunity for re-examining the early history of the Jin State. In the inscription,Xiefu is called Tang Bo,which refers to Fang Bo,chieftain of a local clan, instead of the birth order or a noble rank. Thus,Tangshu Yu(Uncle Yu of Tang) could also be called Tang Bo,from which it is known that both Xiefu and Tangshu Yu were important chieftains who protected the Zhou state in earlier period. Moreover, the inscription could not prove that Xiefu moved his clan from Tang to Jin,since the change only refers to the name, but not the location of the clan.
