档案著录元数据标准——EAD的应用调查与分析

Archival Description Metadata Standard: The Application Survey and Analysis of EAD

EAD是元数据标准在档案领域的具体应用,它适应了网络环境下编码电子检索工具的要求,成为文献信息机构处理档案与手稿的一种新的元数据标准。随着其在应用中表现出来的灵活性和适应性,如今正被越来越多的国家和机构应用于档案检索工具的编码。文章阐述了EAD的缘起并分析了EAD的应用情况,最后提出了EAD对构建我国档案著录元数据标准的启示意义。

EAD (Encoded Archival Description) is a special application of metadata standard in the archival profession;it meets the requirement to encode electronic finding aids in the network environment. With its development, it becomes a new metadata standard for literacy information institutions to describe archives and manuscripts. With its features of flexibility and applicability shown in the implementation, more countries and institutions are applying it to archival description. This paper clarifies the origin of EAD and analyzes EAD application status. At last, concludes that the enlightenment of EAD on constructing archival descriptive metadata standard for our own archival work.
