在甲骨文和金文中,"求"是兽尾的象形,"求"的本义即指"兽尾"。兽尾与雄性生殖器近似,故尾常比喻生殖器,并与生育等相联系。因此,"求"可以喻指雄性生殖器,与生育行为相联系;"逑"也可以用来指称"交配"、"配偶"等相关的意象。
