On Paiju Bianwen(排句变文)—A Supplement to Exegesis Methods

排句变文是古人的行文之例,唯其湮昧少闻,故详列书证以为钩沉。学者们利用排句变文训释词义,自来即有先例,故当视为训诂之方法。不明此例,则可能误解词义。如误释"择"为"区别",误释"景"为"阴影"。若据排句变文之例,则其义自见。

Paiju Bianwen(排句变文),which means'different words have the same meaning when used in parallel structures',is one of the conventions in Old Chinese writing.This paper employs detailed evidences to recall this long—forgotten technique.The use of Paij u Bianwen in explaining word meaning had been wide—spreading in exegesis research,so it should be re- garded as an exegetic method.With the help of this method we can understand many confu sing words such as ze(择)and jing(景).
