Furnished with rich cultural and historical information, the hair usually marks one's identity. The 20th century Afro- American fiction has developed a tradition of portraying the hair. This essay attempted to review the hair image in the 20th century Afro- American fiction from Charles Chesnutt to Toni Morrison, demonstrating that the Black fictionists in different times have shown great concern for the bodily fate of their country people.
