It seems that the enthusiasm for Saul Bellow in America in the new century has abated,which finds expression in fewer essays/works produced and the narrowing of scope in Bellow studies.That is,there are few comprehensive studies on Bellow's fiction.During this period,the selection and publication of the source materials dominate the field,such as Saul Bellow Letters edited by Benjamin Taylor.In order to unveil the current critical tendency of American Bellow studies to fill the aforementioned gaps,this essay introduces some of the major issues in Small Planets: Saul Bellow and the Art of Short Fiction and Saul Bellow and American Transcendentalism.In addition,some major historical facts revealed in Saul Bellow Letters will be introduced.
