An Enquiry into Consumption from a Moral Point of View

消费作为人再生产自身的方式,不过是人的需要的一种主观的选择形式和特定的满足方式。而需要作为人对外部世界的一种特殊的摄取状态,乃是人的本质力量的一种确证。对人的需要和人的本性的关系的分析、及其社会性和历史性的考察表明,消费的必要性和适度性应当从人的生产和社会生产方式的性质和状况来确定;而人的消费观念与消费行为的合理性和正当性,则应当看其是否真正符合人的本性和有利于人的发展,是否体现了相应的价值理性和人文关怀。

As a way of human self - reproduction, consumption is a means that man chooses to show and satisfy his needs. Needs, being a special state in which man snatches from the outside world, reflect human nature. An analysis of the relations between human needs and human nature and a look into the social and historical property of human needs demonstrate that the necessity and adequacy of consumption is decided by the character of human productive and social productive moulds. When we consider the rationality and justification of consumption, we should see whether it is fit for human nature, whether it is favorable for human development, and whether it has reflected corresponding value rationality and humanistic care.
