AbstractAfrica today has become a `severely afflicted area′ of AIDS with both
of its infection rate and mortality numbering the first of the world. The spread of AIDS in Africa is
not only endangering the life and health of the African people, but also seriously affecting the
present and future economic development of the African countries. AIDS has reduced the African
people's capability of production and consumption, increased the financial burden on families,
affected the operational order, profit and gains of enterprises, and obstructed the stable
development of communities. In South Africa, Zimbabwe and Uganda, AIDS has slackened the
speed of their economic progress. Many African countries will meet severe test of AIDS in the
forthcoming decade. The thing is that the serious effects of AIDS have not yet drawn sufficient
attention from the African countries. In case that no measures are taken to halt the rampant
spread of the deadly desease, the economic situation in the African countries will be even more
difficult.
