论英汉互译的时空因素——从fat的翻译谈起

On the Spatial and Temporal Factors in Translation Between Chinese and English

时空因素对正确传输原文的主旨精神、原文的文化蕴涵、原文的文体色彩等起着至关重要的作用。语际翻译中两种文化、两种语言的时空错位必然导致误译错译 ,因而 ,也就达不到翻译的目的。时空因素的关键作用从fat一词的翻译中可见一斑。本文着重从fat(肥 )在英汉文化语言中的不同价值取向和不同的表达方式方面加以探讨 。

The spatial and temporal factors play a pivotal and crucial role in the infallible transmission of the original spirit, the original style and the original cultural connotations. The mistranslation is often caused by the mismatch relating to the spatial and temporal factors in interlingual translation. In this way, translation can not achieve its purpose. The key role of the spatial and temporal factors can be clearly observed from the translation of the word “fat”, which the present paper discusses by comparing and analysing the different cultural values and different linguistic expressions between English and Chinese. The purpose is to emphasize the importance of the translator′s spatial and temporal consciousness in the course of translation.
