A General Account of Inscribed Slips of the Han Dynasty From Xuanquan at Dunhuang

悬泉汉简总计23000余枚,主要包括:邮置、邮书,过所与乘传(出行者的身份证明以及用车制度),诏书与各种官府文书,律、令等司法文书,各种薄籍,信扎,以及其他关于西域、边塞军事机构、人口、水利建设、自然灾害等内容。

The inscribed slips from Xuanquan total up to 23,000 pieces with a rich content com-mensurate to the status and function of Xuanquan during the Han dynasty. The slips in-clude legal and governmental documents, passenger's ID and letters. They also carry refer-ence to military institutions, population, irrigation, natural disasters as well as various as-pects of the local postal system. It enriches our knowledge of the history of the WesternRegions since Emperor Wudi of the Han dynasty.A part of the slips along with transcrip-tion are published here for the sake of students of the field.
