摘要
Against the background of Taoist values reflected in the conceptions of "bào pǔ" (preserving man’s natural state of purity) and "jué qiǎo" (rejecting ingenuity), this paper makes a systematic observation of the orbit of the meaning derivation of some monosyllabic and disyllabic Chinese words with the meaning of "artificial and ingenious". The author finds some 20 words whose derived meanings tally with Taoist values, thus the semantic correspondence of "artificial, ingenious-false-swindling" was formed. It is an instance of the author’s attempt to experiment a method of case analysis of the mutual reflection of historical culture and the meaning derivation of words.
